Greaves Cotton PAT up 134% for Quarter ended March 2010. Declares 20% Third Interim Dividend |

Engine segment shows impressive growth

Greaves Cotton Limited, one of India's leading engineering companies, has reported higher revenue at Rs. 358.01 Crores for the quarter ended 31st March 2010 as against Rs. 240.56 Crores for the corresponding quarter last year (an increase of 48.8%). The Profit After Tax (PAT) has increased to Rs. 33.61 Crores as against Rs. 14.37 Crores, for the corresponding quarter last year (a quantum growth of 133.9%). The Company has declared third interim dividend of 20% equivalent to Rs. 2.00 per equity share, making the total interim dividend to Rs. 4.50 per share for the current financial year.
Financial performance for nine months ended 31st March 2010, has also shown significant growth both in turnover and profit after tax. While the turnover, at Rs. 999.51 Crores as against Rs.799.29 Crores for the corresponding period last year shows an increase of 25%, the PAT at Rs. 90.20 Crores as against Rs. 42.75 Crores, shows a growth of 111%.
The engine segment of the Company, where the Company has considerable technological strengths, continued to show good performance. The automotive sector grew well, as also the agro engines business. The Company is aggressively promoting its new generation factory-built gensets among various target markets. Recent revival in the construction scenario is also expected to drive the Company's construction equipment business going forward.

Greaves Cotton, a leading engines and construction equipment manufacturer, has entered the earth- moving segment with the launch of its Wheeled Loader CG 932 H. It has also tied up with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Limited, Japan, to market its range of Motor Graders in India.
Greaves Cotton, presently, is the only Indian manufacturer to offer a range of products in concreting as well as compaction segment. With the inclusion of these two new products in the earth- moving segment, it will have an exclusive position as a supplier for the contractors involved in road building, irrigation and other infrastructure development projects.
At EXCON 2009 in Bengaluru, Greaves Cotton launched its 14 / 12 Meter Boom Pump, a cost effective solution for contractors involved in construction of Elevated Highways, Bridges etc. The Greaves Perfect-mix 1000, a 60 cubic meter per hour capacity Concrete Batching Plant and GCP 450 DS, a high capacity Concrete Pump are the other new products showcased at the exhibition.
It may be recalled that the Company had recently launched the 19 ton Vibratory Compactor, the heaviest in the country, in technical tie-up with Bomag Gmbh, Germany. This compactor augments the existing range in the 10, 11 & 12 ton class. Greaves Cotton presently markets the entire range of Bomag products in India, which includes Pneumatic Tyred Roller, Cold Milling Machine, Stabilisers and Paver Finishers.

Thursday, October 22, 2009: Greaves Cotton kicked off a road show in Bangalore, Karnataka today. The road show will cover prominent industrial and commercial areas in and around Bangalore over a period of nearly 6 days. It is aimed at promoting the range of Greaves gensets among various target groups.
The road show will showcase the latest new generation, silent, eco-friendly 'G' series gensets which find wide application in hotels, hospitals, retail outlets, commercial complexes and small and medium industries. Through the road show, Greaves Cotton plans to meet its dealers and existing / potential customers and highlight various features and benefits of the range of gensets. The 'G' series Engines and Gensets plant in Pune, Maharashtra is equipped with the modern manufacturing facilities for the new gener1ation products. The engines for diesel gensets are designed and tested at the state-of-the-art technology centre in Pune. The testing facility is among the best in the industry and is equipped with emission measurement capabilities, integrated digital controls, conditioned air, fuel conditioning and water temperature control for testing engines upto 2 MW. It is also capable of testing gas engines.

Mumbai, July 14, 2009: Greaves Cotton Limited, one of India's leading engineering companies, is launching the heaviest Single Drum Vibratory Compactor ever to hit the Indian soil. With a weight of more than 19 ton, this compactor is the heaviest in terms of operating weight and total force.
The compactor known as BW 219 D-4, is manufactured in Gummidipoondi, Tamil Nadu in a technical tie up with Bomag, Germany- the world leader in compaction equipment. This machine will complement an already well established range of Greaves compaction equipment. |

BW 219 D - 4 with production output ranging from 960 to 1440 cubic meters per hour and above is capable of compacting layer thickness upto 1 meter, to achieve the required density with minimum number of passes. This high productivity will make the machine the ultimate choice for Contractors involved in Irrigation, Dams, Railways, Airports and Road projects.
Powered by a fuel-efficient water-cooled Tier II engine delivering 197 HP @ 2300 RPM, this 4th generation machine is capable of generating centrifugal forces up-to 32 Tons at an amplitude of 2 mm. Its operating weight of above 19 ton and a Static linear load of 60.1 Kg/Cm, with dual frequency and amplitude, enable faster project completion and optimum utilization of related equipment like dumpers, excavators etc.
BW 219 D-4, a 'Drum Drive' machine with Hydrostatic Travel and Vibration, comes with many features like Electronic Engine speed-control, 'Bolted' type Articulation Joint, No-Spin Differential Axle and Single Lever Travel and Vibration Control. The machine is also compatible for attaching latest compaction measuring instruments like Bomag Terameter (BTM) and Bomag Compaction Measuring (BCM) system. GREAVES COTTON CROSSES TWO MILLION MARK IN LIGHT DIESEL ENGINES |

Mumbai, May 11, 2009: Greaves Cotton Limited, one of India’s leading engineering companies, achieved a rare distinction when it crossed production of two million light diesel engines on May 7, 2009. The roll out took place at the Company’s Aurangabad plant. In December 2004, Greaves had reached the millionth light diesel engine mark. The second million has taken just 4 ½ years.
Commenting on this landmark achievement, the Company’s Managing Director & CEO Mr. Prabhakar Dev, said "With an annual production of over 2,50,000 single cylinder light diesel engines, Greaves is already amongst the largest manufacturers of such engines in the world. If we maintain this momentum, I reckon the next million is not too far away".
Greaves began the manufacture of light diesel engines way back in 1977 and has since set up three more plants and a Technology Centre dedicated to design and develop new proprietary technology eco-friendly diesel engines for automotive and other applications. GREAVES OPENS A NEW MANUFACTURING FACILITY FOR AGRO EQUIPMENT |

September 24, 2008 : Greaves Cotton Limited, one of India’s leading engineering companies, today inaugurated a new manufacturing facility for agro equipment at Gummidipoondi, Tamil Nadu. This is the fourth unit of the Company in Gummidipoondi, making it a major manufacturing hub for Greaves Cotton. The Company already has 3 other factories dedicated to the manufacture of concreting and road making equipment for the infrastructure sector.
The new plant was inaugurated by the Company’s Managing Director & CEO Mr. P. Sachdev. The plant, located on a sprawling 4 acre area, will be the new manufacturing base for Greaves agro equipment and will produce petrol/ kerosene engines and other products which were hitherto being manufactured at Thoraipakkam in Chennai.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. P. Sachdev said “India is an agri-dominated economy and Greaves contribution to farm mechanization dates back to over 5 decades. It is our constant endeavour to provide the Indian farmer modern machinery to help enhance farm productivity at an affordable price”.
The plant, set up with an investment of Rs. 15 Crores, is equipped with modern CNC machines to give cutting edge quality to various equipment being manufactured such as petrol / kerosene engines and pumpsets (1.0 hp to 5.0 hp), portable gensets (900 VA to 2800 VA) etc.
With an annual sale of around 90,000 portable agricultural pumpsets, Greaves agro equipment already commands majority share of the market in this segment. The Greaves brand of power tillers marketed by the Group have also shown quantum growth in sale over the past few years. A vast countrywide network of around 700 Dealers ensures a strong spares and service back-up for Greaves agri products, anytime, anywhere.
Plans are on the anvil to further strengthen the rapidly growing business of this Group with the launch of mini agri equipment such as brush cutters, roto tilling machines, reapers, harvester, rice planter etc. in the near future. GREAVES OPENS A NEW PLANT FOR ROAD COMPACTION EQUIPMENT |

April 18, 2008 : Greaves Cotton Limited, one of India’s leading engineering companies, today inaugurated a new manufacturing Plant for road compaction equipment in Gummidipoondi, Tamil Nadu. A Training centre was also opened.
The facilities were inaugurated by the Company’s Chairman, Mr. Karan Thapar. The newly opened plant is the fourth manufacturing unit of the Company’s Infrastructure Equipment Group. The new facility will complement the existing unit and enable the Company to enhance its production capacity from 600 to 1200 compaction machines per annum.
The company also announced the signing of technical collaboration agreement with Bomag GmbH, Germany to manufacture the latest generation 19 ton vibratory soil compactors in India. This model will now meet the growing demand from contractors involved in BOT road projects, airports, dam and irrigation projects and will facilitate faster completion of compaction jobs. Bomag is the world’s No. 1 manufacturer of complete range of compaction equipment and has had a successful and exclusive relationship with Greaves for twenty years.

PVPL ties up with Greaves for supply of engine |

Mumbai, 22nd January 2008 : Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited(PVPL), the Piaggio Group’s Indian subsidiary, today signed an important long-term indices agreement with Greaves Cotton Limited (Greaves) for the supply of mono-cylinder diesel engines for application on the three-wheeled vehicles manufactured by PVPL.
Under the terms of the 8-year agreement, Greaves will continue to supply to PVPL the GL400 BSII mono-cylinder diesel engine currently used on the Ape vehicles, and starting from April 2010, in connection with the introduction of the new Bharat Stage III emissions regulations in India, it will supply to PVPL a new BSIII compliant mono-cylinder diesel engine being developed by Greaves.
The agreement is a mutually beneficial techno-commercial understanding leading to a strategic buying arrangement by PVPL. Consequently Greaves will continue to be a single source supplier of such mono-cylinder diesel engines for 3-wheeled vehicles manufactured by PVPL.
Mr. Ravi Chopra, Chairman & Managing Director of PVPL said that they enjoyed excellent business relationship with Greaves, and look forward to continued long term relationship, as hitherto.
